Under the scanner?

Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, ADGP, a 1990 batch IPS officer of the Haryana cadre, is in the news. He is the first IPS officer who is the Chairman cum Managing Director, Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd. (DHBVNL) & Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd. (UHBVNL). Both public sector undertakings are working beyond expectations and that is not the issue. The issue is Anil Vij, the Home Minister of the Haryana Government, has asked for a list of all IPS officers on deputation in the state. Vij is of the opinion that police officials should only do the job of policing and management of corporations should be left to the civil servants. Vij has expressed his view to the media with a rider that it is up to the Chief Minister how and what kind of job he wants to assign to IPS officers, and that is the prerogative of CM. Then, why is Vij digging up lists and so on. Sources informed that Shatrujeet has been in the state CID and used to report on the activities of Vij. So, it is a Catch 22 situation. Though Shatrujeet is not moving anywhere, but Vij has a habit of putting the record straight before the CM. Given the balancing act of the Chief Minister, it is hoped that both Vij and Shatrujeet will be allowed to do their jobs.
