Sinha, Singh protected

Where are Ranjit Sinha and AP Singh, both former CBI Directors, and the controversial meat exporter Moinnuddin Qureshi. Has the law taken any action against them? gfiles has learnt that nothing is likely to happen to them. The clout of both the former Directors can be gauged from the fact that till now no chargesheet has been filed by the CBI. To recall, AP Singh served the CBI from November 30, 2010 to November 30, 2012 and Ranjit Sinha from December 3, 2012 to December 2, 2014. Singh had to subsequently resign as member of UPSC on alleged corruption charges. In Sinha’s case, a corruption case had been registered on allegations of abusing his authority to scuttle enquiries, investigations and prosecutions in the coal block allocation cases. The case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act pursuant to the Supreme Court directive to probe the charges. Following reports that Sinha had met several suspects in the cases at his residence, the Supreme Court took cognisance of the allegations. Subsequently, in September 2015, a team led by former CBI Special Director ML Sharma was constituted to conduct a preliminary enquiry. He submitted a detailed report to the Supreme Court on January 23, 2017. The apex court then set up a Special Investigation Team led by the CBI Director to study the report and ascertain whether Sinha abused his authority prima facie. The Supreme Court on March 24, 2017 ordered that a certified copy of the report of the Enquiry Committee be handed over by the Registry to the CBI Director. Based on the preliminary findings, the agency has now registered the case against its own former chief. Meanwhile, Moin Qureshi, who took the job of all last three Directors, including Alok Verma, is sitting and smiling in Dubai. Ranjit Sinha and AP Singh are denying all corruption charges. It’s learnt from the sources that a protection umbrella is being provided to Sinha, Singh and Moin from the powers that be in the Central Government.
