Appropriately, Shantha Sheela Nair-Secretary, Drinking Water Supply, Ministry of Rural Development-feels strongly about India’s water problems. A 1973-batch IAS officer of the Tamil Nadu cadre, she started her career as a Sub-Collector in Dindigul in 1975. As Chairperson and Managing Director of the Madras Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board in 1994, she resolved the chronic water problem of Chennai.
