Prime Minister Narendra Modi has to select a new Cabinet Secretary within three months after extending the term of the present Cabinet Secretary Pradeep Kumar Sinha, a 1977-batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre. gfiles had reported in its April issue that the term of PK Sinha may be extended for smooth transition of the new government. With the extension of PK Sinha, many IAS officers are now out of selection race. Ramesh Abhishek a 1982-batch IAS officer, Secretary, Commerce and Industry, and Ms. Aruna Sundararajan, a 1982-batch IAS officer, Secretary, Communications, both will be superannuated in July 2019. Rajiv Gauba a 1982-batch officer of the Jharkhand cadre, Secretary, Home Affairs, appears to be on the top of the list of the candidates but if he is not elevated as Cabinet Secretary he will retire in August 2019. Then the PMhas to choose from among the 1983-batch IAS officers: Amarjeet Sinha, Secretary Panchayati Raj; Chandra Kishore Mishra, Secretary, Environment, Forests & Climate; Subhash Chand Garg, Secretary, Economic Affairs; and Gopal Krishna, Secretary, Shipping. Sources in Raisina Hills inform that Dr. Jagdip Narayan Singh, also a 1983-batch IAS officer, and currently Chief Secretary, Gujarat government, is the dark horse. He has been given an extension in service for six months on June 1, 2019. Wait and watch….
