DoPT’s caution: Declare assets

DoPT

There is a saying that if you are an IAS officer, you can get away with anything, but no more, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government is tightening the frame around civil servants day by day.  The Department of Personnel and Training from North Block keeps track of the activities of civil servants. Recently Pradip Kumar Tripathi, the establishment officer and additional secretary of DoPT has reminded state chief secretaries about non-filing of Immovable Property Returns (IPR) by IAS officers even as the deadline for filing it for the year 2018, was January 31, 2019. In a letter dated February 7, 2019, Tripathi, said, “some officers of your cadre are indicated to have not filed their IPRs for 2018” even though the deadline was over. The list of such officers who have not filed the IPRs so far, was enclosed with the EO’s letter for ready reference. The letter further said that technically, there should not have been any problems or issues hindering the officers from filing their lPR online. In fact, non-submission of IPRs may lead to the denial of vigilance clearance for the officers’ inclusion in the offer list, empanelment, deputation, etc., and also pose hurdles to appointment to sensitive posts, assignment to training programmes (except mandatory training), premature repatriation et al. So, if one has not filed IPRs after reading this, you are advised to move fast and file as desired!
