Akhilesh’s master stroke

The BJP stormed the last Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh with as many as 71 MPs out of 80 belonging to the party. Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India with a thumping majority in the Lok Sabha. The Samajwadi Party was naturally aghast as it had been completely routed in a state hitherto claimed as its fiefdom. Meanwhile, the voters of Uttar Pradesh are feeling the pinch; they are now realising the impact of selecting an MP of a party other than the ruling dispensation in the state. A majority of BJP MPs are complaining that the district administration is not paying any attention to the issues and problems raised by them. No doubt, throughout the district administration, the Samajwadi Party has appointed their favourite bureaucrats and they listen to their bosses and act as per their instructions rather than the BJP MPs. This tug-of-war has a direct impact on the development of the Lok Sabha constituency of the BJP MPs. The MPs say that they keep on writing letters to the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Secretaries and District Magistrate but, apart from an acknowledgment, no action is taken. Modi is aware of this dichotomy but nothing can be done except to wait for the next assembly elections in UP.
